Nightmare Before Nutcracker tells the story of a famous young ballerina, Claire Steel, who is overcoming injuries, her own fears and an antagonistic choreographer as she makes her way back to the top. Much of the plot takes place in Claire’s apartment where across the hall is a boy with many toys. Like the original Nutcracker, his toys—soldiers, action figures and now cars all come to life in Claire’s dreams to do battle against an army of cats and monsters made of candy, pots and pans and kitchen utensils.
The performance itself will be comprised of ballet, modern dance and electronic media that depict memories, dialogue and mixed narrative. Together or separate, the stage and screen will be powerful media for product placement and performance during the production. Set to the music of Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, Wagner and many modern rock and Halloween pop hits, the performance will debut here this Halloween at the Bank of America Theater at the Eisemann Center.
