Named Cultural Ambassador for the City of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana, Mr. Mayfield and the orchestra have themed the 2006 tour “New Orleans Now and Then,” tracing the evolution of jazz as it moved out of New Orleans and into the world during the 20th century. The mission of NOJO and its leader, Mayfield, is to tour the world honoring the best of New Orleans’ past while always looking towards the future…bringing audiences, young and old, the vibrant music of the new wave of music from New Orleans. Ticket prices range from $25-$55.

Second in the series is Birdhouse Factory, with two performances Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18, 2006 at 8:00 pm. Ernest Albrecht of Spectacle Magazine said “World-class talent, an original musical score and an innovative concept that for once doesn’t depend on fantasy or the surreal. This may be one of the most important contributions to the development of the American circus since Cirque du Soleil burst upon the scene”. Birdhouse Factory is circus acrobatics and early 20th century machines come together to tell a story of laughter, love, flight, loss and birdhouses thanks to the inventive vision of director Chris Lashua, his inventive machines and the talent of an international cast made up of former members of the world-renowned Cirque du Soleil and the Nanjing Acrobatic Troupe. Ticket prices range from $26-$55.

Paul Taylor Dance Company, the foremost modern dance company in the world, returns to the Eisemann Center for a third engagement, Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 8:00 pm as part of their 52nd season. Continuing to direct the company he founded, Paul Taylor is regarded as the greatest living American choreographer and the New York Daily News calls him “The best choreographer in the world”. Exquisitely trained dancers, superb musicality and compelling content in the dances make any appearance of this revered company pure magic. Ticket prices range from $20-$55.

Coming Friday, March 9, 2007 at 8:00 pm is Canadian Celtic music and dance powerhouse, Leahy. An awe-inspiring eight-member brother and sister act are a triple threat of fiddle-driven music, dance and vocals augmented by keyboards and percussion who leave onlookers breathless from the moment they hit the stage. The intoxicating energy that drives Leahy connects them to the audience with genuine, spontaneous and spectacular passion and excitement. Ticket prices from $20-$50.

The Flying Karamazov Brothers, described as comedians, musicians, jugglers and men about town present their newest, Monty Pythonesque evening of theatre and entertainment, LIFE: A Guide for the Perplexed to the Hill Performance Hall stage on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 8:00 pm. A seriously silly and crazy comic recipe for survival in the modern world. They sing, dance and juggle their way through a mid-life crisis that becomes a dazzling vaudevillian romp through the stages of life. Expect the unexpected and yes Dmitri, the Champ, will face the challenge of juggling any three items audience members bring to the stage. Ticket prices range from $20-$50.

In a unique collaboration, the Alexander String Quartet and the David Sánchez Group will play brief sets of signature works along with a combined set of Duke Ellington’s pieces in the first act of their performance on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 8:00 pm. The second act will feature both groups of musicians performing Eddie Sauter’s Focus commissioned by Stan Getz with the intent of creating a work that would bring together the elements of jazz and classical music. The critically acclaimed (Downbeat: “A magnificent work.”) work was premiered and only performed once by Getz at Hunter College in New York City in 1962. The Alexander String Quartet and David Sánchez Group reconstructed the composer’s original concept in 2004 with the blessing of the Sauter family and have been successful in recreating the magic evident in the original recording to the delight of enthusiastic music lovers. The performance will be the culmination of a two-day residency in the community supported in part by Mid-America Arts Alliance and the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). Ticket prices range from $20-$50.

THE THEATRE COMEDY SERIES

Featuring weeklong runs of three hilarious productions all set in the intimate surroundings of the 368-seat Countrywide Theatre, the series begins with NEWSical from October 17-22, 2006. Satire will be running happily rampant in the theatre and the medium is NEWSical, a fast, funny and irreverent topical revue that zestfully serves up its skewered famous and foolish. Created at a breakneck pace to keep up with today’s news cycle, NEWSical spoofs both current events as well as perennial media targets in a riotous musical send-up that is constantly updated with new songs. “The Daily Show set to music!” – The Associated Press. Single tickets for all three Comedy Series shows range from $29-$35.

The Water Coolers running February 13-18, 2007 is the ultimate job revue. The Water Coolers is “laugh-out-loud” music and comedy about the things we share around the water coolers of America every day – life, work, kids, husbands, wives, travel, technology – and trying to balance it all. Home Magazine said, “I laughed so hard my cheeks hurt…like a cross between Dilbert and Forbidden Broadway.”

Rounding out the Comedy Series season March 13-18, 2007 is the Southern Fried Chicks Comedy Tour starring Etta May, Karen Mills and Leanne Morgan. Southern Fried Chicks is the story of three women all from the south yet totally different – one’s suburban, one’s urban and one’s plain white trash. It’s where the “New South,” the “Old South,” and the “Deep South” come together for an evening of non-stop laughter exploring three different journeys down the same road of life, love and the pursuit of happiness.
