COTTONWOOD ART FESTIVAL PREVIEW EXHIBIT PRESENTS
PAINTINGS BY TRISH BIDDLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY ROBIN RENEE HIX
IN THE GREEN MEZZANINE GALLERY SEPTEMBER 1-OCTOBER 5, 2006
AT RICHARDSON’S CHARLES W. EISEMANN CENTER

RICHARDSON, TX – This exhibition will feature the Art Deco style paintings of Trish Biddle whose figurative work captivates viewers with the subtle play of light and shadow in intense color. The oil painted black and white photographs of Robin Renee Hix delight the observer with their dramatic compositions and fine craftsmanship. Works associated with the Cottonwood Art Festival are featured twice yearly at the Eisemann Center in April and September, just prior to the popular juried festival.

Trish Biddle has over 40 works published internationally and is collected around the world. From her art studio, perched high above Lake Lewisville, Trish is inspired by the grand views of land and water. Her expertise in capturing nature and light create richly colored breathtaking canvases. Showcasing her sense of design, Trish captures the Art Deco style of fashion, elegance, sophistication and the simplicity of the era. The work of Tamara de Lempicka, Argentinean tango dancers and depression-era dance marathons have all inspired Trish’s vintage figurative paintings. The faces are obscured purposely to allow the viewer to identify the images of the graceful dancers with their own romantic notions.

Robin Renee Hix transforms her traditional hand-printed black and white photographs into brilliantly colored and finely detailed oil colored painting allowing for creativity, a unique color sense and an eye for beauty in the unexpected. The oil painted photographs are surrounded by frames individually made by the artist to complement each image. Recently, Hix modified a “junk” camera which she uses to create diffused grainy surfaces that mimic her offbeat compositions and subjects. Commenting on her work, Robin Renee Hix says, “Drawn to compositions that are full of distortion, unexpected flare, soft edges and dramatic light, this camera is ideal for my offbeat works. Hand-painting oils of sublime colors to the surfaces of these black and white photographs, I create one of a kind works on paper.”
