Although a wedding may inflict stress on the couple getting married, it’s often no picnic for the invited guests. My Cousin’s Wedding follows the plight of Mike and Meg, an unmarried couple that’s just received an invitation to a wedding. From picking out the right wedding gift to getting lost on the way to the church to the humiliation of performing the chicken dance, My Cousin’s Wedding confronts all the passions and pressures on those bearing witness.

My Cousin’s Wedding stars Kirk Hanley and Maribeth Monroe, who wrote the play while on stage at the legendary Second City comedy theatre. Since 1959, The Second City has been the springboard for generations of the comedy world’s best and brightest. It’s alumni list reads like a veritable who’s who of comedy greats: Mike Nichols, Elaine May, Alan Arkin, Robert Klein, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Martin Short, Mike Myers, Tina Fey, and Nia Vardalos all got their start at The Second City.

John Sousanis of The Oakland Press called My Cousin’s Wedding “…touching and funny…as funny as anything on Second City’s stage;” and Kip Dexter of UR Chicago wrote that “This is truly the most beautiful piece to grace The Second City stage since it’s inception. Bring a date; it’ll change your world.”
